We are two related families (the dads are brothers) who love to spend time in the Canadian wilderness.  Each summer we endeavor to spend time canoeing and camping in the wild, visiting places such as the backcountry of Algonquin Park (ON), Killarney (ON), and the Bowron Lakes (BC) and areas surrounding Phillip Edward Island (ON).  The children in our families have come along on backcountry trips from early ages, some of them within the first year after they were born.

Over the years we have heard many people say that they enjoyed backcountry camping before they had children and that since they had children they didn't think it was possible to go on a backcountry adventure.  These people have often been surprised when we show them photos from our trips and when we suggest that it is not only possible to take children on backcountry trips, but that it is also exciting and fun.  Our main reason for creating this website is to share our adventures with other families and to share some of the lessons we have learned over the years (some of them the hard way) about how to optimize camping with kids.
